The Religious Right Is Fighting a Holy War. Here's Our Plan to Win.

Oct Program Meeting
Historic (Former) Christian Church
222 Church St | Morrisville, NC
Sunday, Oct 4 | 1:30-3:30 pm

Join us for our monthly program meeting. A dedicated time for us to gather together each month.

This month we’ll be joined in person by Fish Stark, the Executive Director at American Humanist Association

The religious right is waging the most aggressive assault on secular values in a generation — defunding public schools, pushing religion into government, and attacking empathy itself as a weakness and a sin. But the picture isn't all bleak. Efforts to force the Bible and Ten Commandments into public school classrooms are being defeated in court. The AHA won major federal cases in Florida and Arkansas. The Congressional Freethought Caucus we helped start is now larger than the Freedom Caucus. And from Minneapolis to Biloxi, humanists are showing what is possible when we show up for our communities.

AHA Executive Director Fish Stark will break down the threats the AHA's legal and policy teams are tracking right now, where the most serious attacks on the First Amendment are coming from, and what humanists can do to fight back and win — in the courts, in Congress, in the culture, and in our communities.

Fish Stark is an organizer, educator, social entrepreneur, and lifelong humanist who has built a career turning big ideas into action around belonging, flourishing, and social justice.

He holds a Master's in Education (child development and psychology) from Harvard and a Bachelor's from Yale. Prior to coming to AHA, Fish served as the Director of Programs at Peace First, a global nonprofit, and has a background spanning political campaigns, mentorship work in the West Virginia coalfields, anti-bullying program design, and teaching at every level from preschool to high school.

Meeting Agenda

Our Program Meetings are open to the public, and we are interested in everyone’s input but the opinions of current members will weighted more heavily as the Board discusses the output of the meeting at their future Board meetings. We have various membership tiers, join today. This is not a time or place for evangelizing and harassment/discrimination will not be tolerated. We are an inclusive organization and anyone causing a disturbance or intentionally making others uncomfortable will be asked to leave.
